While you can cover your boat with your homeowners insurance or renters insurance, you’ll find certain limitations regarding the size and value of your boat. The homeowners policy may cover some smaller watercrafts like paddle boats, canoes, and kayaks with lower horsepower, but won’t be enough to cover larger and more powerful motorized watercraft. Meaning, the homeowners policy won’t cover boats for more than $1000 - $2000.
Your homeowners policy will also only cover your boat if it’s damaged while it’s within your property. Furthermore, liability coverage isn’t included in the standard policy and needs to be added as an endorsement. Most homeowners insurance policies also limit coverage depending on where you use your boat. So, it might not cover boats that are used on Great Lakes, coastlines or along the beach.
If you’re looking to properly insure larger boats and watercraft, you’ll need a separate boat insurance policy and we can help with that! Whether small or big, a classic, a specialty or just a run of the mill boat, we can help you get the right protection at the right price.
